Can this be run on 15v DC? -- what mods would be needed?
Hi,
No mods would be needed but you would be VERY close to the upper limit. Possibly above it. The chip is rated 16V but maximum recomended supply is around 14.5V, to give some margin. For example if you short the outputs, the inductance can cause voltage peaking of a volt or so, giving voltages of / or above 16V. The outputs are shunted by diodes to the positive supply, so if there is an overshoot, this will be Vsupply + diode voltage drop. The diodes are ultrafast low voltage drop schottky diodes to keep overshoots on the supply rail in control.
With a 15V supply, I would:
1) Verify that it is really 15V at all conditions, never more than 15V.
2) Use a diode to drop the voltage to 14.5 or so. This also gives you reversed polarity protection.
