View Full Version : What input signal required ?
Hello,
I'm planning to build an Amp10 and driver this with a tube amp. Now I am searching a nice design for the tube amp, but what input signal amplitude does the Amp10 need for full output (60W on 8Ohm speakers)?
Best regards,
Mischa
I believe that it'll pretty much clip at 2v peek to peek (1.41V rms. That being said, any tube pre-amp can push the Amp10.
Are you going to purchase? Or build it yourself? The pre-amp I mean

Purchase a tube amp ?? Be ashemed to ask :D:D:D
No I want to build it myself. I have a nice design which is rather easy to build and not to complex for a beginner in tube electronics. It will be this one: http://zelfbouwaudio.nl/forum/download.php?id=5441
Maybe I'm going to build the complete supply with tubes, also the rectifier, but that's for later. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your reply,
Mischa
Well, that'll certainly work. Personally I prefer this one:

Two tube pre-amp, one to rectify, one to amp both channels. Mind-bogglingly simple (like me :-) ). Although yours has a Phono-pre which is nice. I've got about 6 or 7 phono pre-amps so it's not much of an issue for me.

Mischa,
You don't normally need a preamp for Tripath amps. They have lots of gain, partly due to the input stage whose op-amp is effectively a pre-amp, but also because the power section also has plenty of gain. Normally you can drive these amps directly from CD/MP3 player, etc. It doesn't contain volume control but you can easily add it.
Having said If I was going to build a tube amp I would take a look at these guys. http://eshop.diyclub.biz
I have been to their shop/warehouse a couple of times - originally I stumbled across it because it's near my office. They seem pretty well organized and seem to concentrate mainly on tube stuff. They sell both pre-built and PCBs. Worth a look anyway.
Regards,
Tim
