As I moved from country to another with very little with me, my old sound equipment was mostly either sold or stored away. Only things coming with me were my PS3 and the DVD/CD-player. Here I have bought a TV-set, but for the rest the idea was to build it myself.

So, there's a need for new sound equipment. I decided to start small, a decision that was helped with the fact that I had already soldered couple of AMP6-B:s together that were lying around. So all I needed to do was to mount one in a case bought from Modushop and pair it with an SMPS giving 13,5 V and 3A out.

And the result looks like this. Front side with input selector, power switch and volume control:

<img src="http://www.41hz.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1576&d=1327191224&thumb=1" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

Size:	20.4 KB
Back side with three inputs, a power input XLR and banana output terminals. Next time I have to be more careful while drilling the holes, now there is some damage to the back plate coating.

<img src="http://www.41hz.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1575&d=1327191222&thumb=1" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.
And the inside of the amplifier. The extra circuit is V-bro's delay circuit for sleep and mute control with a third transistor added to control the front plate's power LED.

<img src="http://www.41hz.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1577&d=1327191226&thumb=1" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.
Well, there's not much to say about the sound yet, as my speakers are waiting to be finished. All I know that the amplifier works, it was tested with my test speakers (cheap car speakers mounted together with the 41hz's power resistor set). I have found out one little perk though: the amplifier is a bit too light for this power switch, it does need a little press with fingers to stay afoot when operating the power switch. The next amplifier won't have this problem...

I could present this to my colleagues at work and maybe someone of them might be interested to test it before I need it myself...

Build Blog: Power Supply

At the moment I have two power supplies at my bench. Both of them can give out about an amp with output voltage between 1,25 V and about 15 V. When connected in series, the output can reach up to 30 V.

Sometimes that just ain't enough. I found a recipe for power supplies with LM317 and LM337 chips in one of my electronic books, so I started to getting ready to build a couple of those. The book presented a table of resistor values to build a one or two sided supplies with different preset voltages or adjustable versions with a potentiometers. Altogether I was thinking to build "enough" of them, two one sided and two two sided.

The first thing to come up that couldn't be handled with my current supplies was testing an AMP11 at 36 V rail voltage. To keep things simple I decided to build first a constant voltage power supply. The limits are about 25 V / rail, so I ended up building two rail version with 15 V each rail.

And here's the result with some pictures. First the inner side from two different angles:

And the front side:

And the back side:

So there it is. The positive rail is 15.2 V and the negative rail 15.3 V. Combined they can be used as a 30.5 V one rail solution. And when I connect that is series with one of the old ones, I'll get the desired 36 V rail voltage.

*The Truepath System. (1) and (2)*

This is a series of documents which are aimed at the complete beginner, but written in an entertaining manner...

The Truepath System. (1) and (2)

This is a series of documents which are aimed at the complete beginner, but written in an entertaining manner to keep the attention of experienced builders. Its OK folks, this is not going to become another set of TP assembly instructions; thank goodness! Better still, I am a relative beginner, on a steep learning curve.

There are thirteen documents mounted on Google docs. I have published the first two today, and they are:

(1) Introduction to my documents about the Truepath System, and the link is:

https://docs.google.com/document/pub...pP_Rl6ZPq63DaM

(2) The sounds from the Truepath Amplifier.
I am convinced that the TP is the best domestic amplifier I have ever heard; by quite a long way!

And the link is:

https://docs.google.com/document/pub...VN8iG2zI1aLCV8

I intend to publish the rest of my documents at roughly weekly intervals, by giving the links using this blog facility, keeping the titles as above (The Truepath System, followed by the document number).
