hi, i'm andrej from montenegro and i decided to build a boombox. my friend and i have discussed it and decided on going bass reflex with 2x 8in full range drivers, and 12V power (batteries + charger + car adapter + solar panels).

these are the drivers we chose (Beyma 8AG/N):
http://www.europe-audio.com/Product.asp?Product_ID=7915

as you can see, they are mildly efficient (96dB), but 8 ohm. as i don't need extreme loudness (just a boombox for small picnics), i thought that around 15-20W per channel is optimal, but i hate distortion, so it's supposed that power rating rating at 0,1-0,2 THD+N.

i've looked around on your website, and only amp9-basic looks like it's capable of such a thing, but it has 4 channels and i'm unsure about its capability of handling 8ohms. if it's possible, i'd like to stay at 12V. can i get rid of 2 of the channels?

what do you suggest? if it's impossible to do at 12V, how about going 24V (2x12V battery, series)? should i use another amp?

Hi guys.

I'm a bit stock here.
I can't seem to determine the resistance based on the color code.

The top 4 are 22 kΩ - I could see that on the color code.

According to the BOM, there should be two 8.2kΩ and two 931R resistors.
Can someone tell me which of the four is 8.2kΩ?

So I'm getting ready to test my amp but I've had some problems following the guide as it differ so much from the latest revision of the amp.
1. I'm not sure if I soldered the resistors in the right place. Please help.
Also I have 2 resistors left. These are identical to R2 & R4. Are these spares?

2. Am I supposed to test the amp before soldering C1819 and D2 in place?
I just created a bike trailer soundsystem, witch has a PA passive mixer as the audio input for the amp 6.
The problem is that the amp is distorting at low output from the mixer and i was thinking if it is possible to change the gain settings of the amp.
The system has two 2 way 12" drivers on 8 Ohms.
Would it be better with another amp? i also have a amp 9.
Hope you can help.

Big problem with the AMP6!

I connected a pair of 8 ohm speakers to each channel and ensured that minus was to minus and plus to plus. Next I connected my phone to with a mini-jack to the input. I'm pretty sure I've soldered the amp correctly, but I guess something could be wrong. Next thing I connected as 12 V battery to the DC-in - I'm sure that the wire reference is correct.

First there was a little pop and then 1 second later, the chip EXPLODED with a spark and a small part of the plastic on the chip popped off.

I took some pictures of the setup right after if it helps anybody to see what went wrong?

I can see that the popped piece of plastic popped off just where the capacitors are soldered to the chip pins on the other side of the board.

Anybody knows what could be wrong?

Hello..

I've damaged my AMP6 but I don't know to what extent. I'm not sure what I've actually done when connecting everything but I have two good candidates. When the accident occured there was a sound like a little "pop" and then shortly after a very small cloud of smoke coming close to the channel output.

1) I may have short circuited one of the channels or both so the output load was 0 ohm.
2) I may have reversed the polarity on the supply voltage.

In either of the two cases I would like to know what could have burned and what is definately burned. Is it even possible to save this AMP6? A guy once told me that the AMP6 could always be repaired :)

Thanks for the help, guys! Much appreciated. Tell me if you need more information to determine.

I have a working Amp 4 powered by a laptop power supply 19V 4.7A. I left out the D99 Rectifier and did not install the Large Caps C1000 C1001. After 20-30 hours of use one channel started delaying start up for a few seconds. So after the on/off switch unmutes I get a "pop" out of one speaker and it starts to play and then 3-10 seconds later the other speaker "pops" and it starts to play.

Any ideas on how to correct this minor issue? Or is it just a problem with the power supply being below the 20V minimum?

Hi guys

I bought an Amp 6B two months ago and tested it when it arrived. It worked perfectly fine so I put it back in the ESD covering in the small cardboard box to let it wait while I finished other stuff so I could use the Amp 6B instead of the T2020 chinese knock-off eBay amp I have previously used in my Boominator.

When I connected the Amp 6 today and powered it up, absolutely NOTHING happened.

I have a multimeter and I measured the voltage going to the Amp 6 at 13 volts, and I made sure that the polarity was + on the inner side of the plug. The fuse is not broken and I am sure that my input device (HTC Desire) is working perfectly fine.

Am I correct when I have both jumpers shorted out when I want to play music?

Can you help me troubleshoot my Amp 6?

Help, I am struggling to get one of my bridged TPs (TP6) to pass the first test on Audiophool’s Guidelines.

On switch-on of V5, the current (I5) measures 21mA; not the usual 11mA, or so.
On shorting pin15 to V5, I5 rises to 31mA, but does not change.

I have another TP (TP7) bridged and identical, and I have tried to check all the routes used by I5 on the PCB of TP6, and all the associated components, and could not find any differences between TP6 and TP7. I used a multi-meter to measure resistance.

However, Q302, in the auto re-start circuits, came under suspicion as its readings were slightly different. I replaced Q302, no change in the test.

I also re-soldered every joint on the PCB and cleaned it completely using IP alcohol; still no change.

Is there something obvious I have not spotted? Should I be running I5 for both PCBs side by side and comparing voltages?

Hi there,

Firstly, sorry for my lack of knowledge regarding this subject. I have searched the forum but can't really find any similiar issues discused.

I have an AMP6-Basic powered by 12V battery (+/-) running two 8Ohm speakers in parallel. When im playing in the last third of the volume range the music becomes very "scratchy" and does'nt sound good at all. I have tried connecting the two speakers to a "regular" amplifier only to see if something was wrong with the speakers, but everything seemed A-OK !

Would it help anything parallel connecting another 12V battery to the AMP6B, or what could i do to make the speakers perform better?

Any response is much appreciated - cheers you guys.

/Tobias
