Default AMP-6 vs AMP-Basic which better, what's needed?

I think I'd like to build and AMP-6 and need to decide which one.

I want the best sounding result.

I don't care if I have to solder as long as it's not surface mount.

I don't mind winding toroids as long the parts/wire is included.

I can buy an AC transformer. I can buy or have a DC wall wart.

Which do you think would result in a better amp?

Right now I'm thinking the AMP-6 is better because it includes a regulated power supply (sans transformer). The Basic would run off a wall-wart so there'd by no filter on the power. Either that, or I'd have to build/buy a better power supply in which case the AMP6 would be much cheaper overall. One question is, is the DC power supply on the AMP6 decent?

On what's required, the AMP6 will need an AC trans about 12VAC. The AMP6-Basic, a DC wall-wart or other DC supply. What else? Is a heat sink for the regulator on the AMP6, needed if running off 12VAC?

    Obviously connectors are needed.

    Anything else?

    I figure I'd just use a passive volume knob until a build a pre-amp.

There's not much difference, the basic is just as good with a good supply.

The regulator on the AMP6 is an LM1084 which is very decent.

The chip and regulator on the AMP6 can be on the same heatsink, there's an insulation kit included.

------X-max. can be several meters on any driver, too bad it can be done only once...------

Is a heatsink included or do you need to add one?

Need any heatsink compound or can you just screw it to the heat sink?

The Heatsink is not included, but what I do is using Hammond die-cast casings. They are good enough as heatsink. Even if you want a better looking casing it is wise to have metal casing shielding the amp from the power supply. (to prevent noise) Just place the encased amp inside a larger casing holding the supply. (or transformer)

Heatsink compound is always better, but the regulator comes with a heat conducting insulating patch.

Just to offer some bad or stupid advice: The heatsink is not 100% required My amp still runs fine without it. I'm using 8 ohm speakers, possibly 4 ohm impedance will allow more current through, necessitating a heatsink.
