    Default amp3 or amp6

    Heia,

I'm looking for a semi-loud amp to drive two 8ohm
speakers. My power supply will be a 7AmpHour
SLA battery and the unit will need to operate
off and on for several weeks with little or
no maintenance. The source will be an mp3 player.

What are the advantages of either Amp3 or Amp6?
I'm comfortable with soldering but I would rather
not work with really small surface components.

    thanks for your replies.

Both amps will work well with a SLA battery.
The AMP32 is more compact amp which can be built into very small enclosures & is therefore more suited to a portable device. However, if you are not comfortable soldering very small components or have poor eyesight, then I suggest you stay with the AMP6-Basic.

Here is a pic of one of a tiny amp32 enclosure built by MECS:

T-profile aluminium and a 30 mm steel square pipe.

Also see this post discussing the virtues of both amps in a portable device:

What's the efficiency of the speakers? Amp3 / Amp6 don't get full efficiency with 8 ohm speakers because voltage becomes a bottleneck. It should work fine, but if you want the optimum config, go with 4 ohm speakers with these amps or use an Amp4 or Amp11 (depending on how power-efficient the 4s and 11s are).

Oh, man! My mistake. I just got all these speakers out of
storage and they ARE rated 4ohm -- 88dB sensitivity.
How loud would that translate with the Amp6 or Amp3?
I'm talking about having many of these outside and
covering a large area and hoping to have a decent
ambient coverage. It should be audible from up in
trees but not necessarily as loud as the civil air
    raid system.

How loud might one of these get with a 7AmpHour SLA
    battery?

Not terribly loud I fear, you'd probably be much better of using some real PA drivers with a sensitivity around 96 dB/W/m (paralleled for 4 Ohms).

I used these speakers last year in Belgrade in the same
application but with car stereo amps (normal stock ones)
and it was certainly loud enough... but will the Amp6
deliver similar loudness to a car stereo amp? I need
very light and small... I can't use PA drivers in any
    case. thanks

I used car stereo amps (the normal TDA...which are used in headunits of 4x45W (downhill, wind in the back, on it's best day )) and they are about just as loud. The TDA...based amp had more gain, but it was unusable because of tremendous distortion. AMP6 stays very smooth even at near clipping levels. The distortion sounds far less dirty too....

I think you won't be disappointed...

(although you're really pushing the limits here, so I can't guarantee that that you'll be happy...)

------X-max. can be several meters on any driver, too bad it can be done only once...------

Thanks V-Bro. Although I'm new to this forum, I can see that
you really help to make it turn.

I may as well just try an Amp6 with my existing setup.
If I need to completely overhaul, this is the time to do it.
Maybe I should be using different batteries. Do you have a
suggestion for safe assembly, safe charge lithium-based
packs? These can be configured to upscale the voltage to
the limit (or to power an Amp9 for a few hours) no?

maybe you have some good departure links for me.
    thanks much.
