Power supply current requirements

Am considering using an Amp11 for making an active bass practice amp cab, and was investigating the option of using a laptop type PSU. I realise that some of the SMPS supplies cause problems, so it may be a little bit of a lottery, but I've found an HP printer PSU that offers 31V at 2.4A. Will that be sufficient current, or will it run out of steam?

100W/10=10W =Average power with normal musical signal at full output.
10W/31V=0,32A =The absolute bare minimum amperage you need with moderate use and 8 ohm speakers.

So most likely it'll do...

Transient response of the supply is still the only uncertain issue....but HP is a brandname that doesn't want to end up in the papers with a supply that causes a fire hazard, so the quality of the PS is probably pretty good....

Thanks v-bro - sounds encouraging. I know some people on an audio forum I frequent (Pink fish) have used HP PSUs for preamp supplies - albeit with pre-regs between the supply and the circuit itself.

When the power supply fails you'll notice soon enough. Either you get terrible clipping or you may get noises....PSRR is very good with the AMP11, so it's certainly worth the try...
