    Default blown chip ?

    hello !

we just finished (almost) the amp 10.

everything was fine, we had around 4,6 volts at j10, no blown fuse. unfortunately we soldered one of the capacitors instead into pin 4 and 8 to false 4 and 6.
when we powered up the system sparks and smoke came up - at the chip ...

we corrected the false capacitor to 4 and 8 . now the led is not working anymore and the chip is going to get hot ...

    any suggestions ?

    thanks,

    michael

    Hi !

No one with an idea - is the chip blown ? We cant see anything wrong on it - but it smells funny, is it possible to
    measure something ?

Should i post some pictures ?

    Any help appreciated,

    Michael

    Hi Michael,

I'm sorry, but from my own experience I would say, that the chip has gone to nirvana. Smoke and bad smell is surely the last fart [xx(]so to say.
So order another chip, and give it a second try...
These chips are quite sensitive to overvoltage and other mistakes, unlike valve amps.

    ciao,

Have a look at your chip to see if you have one of these:

Yes, but I was referring to the crater in the chip....
Sometimes these chips can go with catastrophic results...

This chip failed due to bad(incomplete) soldering.
Have a look at this thread for detailed pics.

Some of the legs had solder blobs stuck to them, but not to the board.
When I cut the chip legs to remove it, one of the legs just fell out of the hole.
Pictures can tell a thousand words.
Please post some closeups of your soldering before you do anything.

    Thanks
