Low voltage headphone amp?

Hi,

I'm curious. I want a headphone amp that sounds like my Tripath speaker amps. Headphone amps only need to push a volt or two, in my case into 32 Ohms.

What is the absolute lowest voltage 41Hz amp? The Amp11 can go down to 9V AFAIK ... is there any other amp that can run on less?

And if we go into funnier territory, could I use the Amp11's TC2000 chip as usual on 5V, and have it run 5V output devices somehow? I.e., drop the "high power" stage of the driver chip?

He actually explains quite clearly why these amps are not ideal for use with headphones.
But as you have found out, it can be done using some additional circuitry, albeit with a loss of hi-fidelity.

Running completely on 5V is new, tough. Strange USB-powered Frankenstein headphone Amp11 anyone?

What would happen if you took the output from TC2000 and connected it straight to some simple mosfets?
