    Default Volume control

    Hello all.

After a week or so of struggle, my AMP5 is working (thanks to all who lended a hand!). Now has come the time to think about volume control. I would like to use a stereo cermet potentiometer. Which value should I use? (I found a 10k lin in a shop near my place)

    Thanks.

I don't go below 20K on my amps (headphone or otherwise), as I don't want to overload my sources. This is more of an issue when A/B'ing amps with a single source. A pot in the 20K-50K range will do perfectly. Personally, I'm going with 50K stepped attenuators in my 3 AMP5s.

    Regards,
    Bryan

Nice! Did you DIY the stepped attenuators? If yes, how did you do it?
I would like to make some also!

Don't use a lin potentiometer, you'll really need a logarithmic potentiometer.

Wow that looks nice! This setup will be a little bit too complicated for my plans though, i think i will go for a analogue version of the stepped attenuators.

    Hello,

No DIY here... I bought some Elma units which allow me to use my own resistors.

This too will be my 5.1 setup... i.e. front channel amp, rear channel amp, and bridged center channel amp. On the CC amp, I will only use one of the two channels on the stereo attenuator.

    Regards,
    Bryan

Sorry that this is off topic but that 7.1 preamp looks very much like the type of thing of thing i want to build. Is it entirely your own design Juul or did you use someone else pcbs etc. Any info would be very greatfully recieved.
