    Default Switching inputs

    Hello all.

I'm in the process of putting my AMP5 in a box. I'd like to have switches to select the sources I want to connect. But I read on the mounting notice, and on this forum, that it is bad for the AMP to switch sources while it's on.

So I'd like to do the following: when I push a switch, power goes off for ~1s; source switching occurs .1s after pushing the button; then after the 1s delay has finished, the amp is turned on again.

A friend of mine told me that it may not be good either for the amp to have its power switch on or off for such a short time.

Should I go on with that project? mute the amp for 1s instead of de-powering it? Mix the sources instead of switching them?

    Thanks.

I have never had any problems whatsoever using a multi position switch. I have used several rotary switches with the T amps and the only problem I have had was EMI. That could be explained by several other things other than the switch too.

Try a double pole multi position switch and see how it goes. Can you also direct me to what posts that suggests that it is not good to switch sources for a T amp?

Well there is a topic on this forum about 'Problem with disconnecting inputs' where the issue was raised; furthermore in the assembly instructions it is said that you musn't disconnect inputs while power is on.

Salmon in the 'Problem with disconnecting inputs' says that it made r150 glow (?) and puts the AMP in protected mode (mute?).

I looked in the TA2022 datasheet but didn't see anything relevant.

Using a rotary switch would be much easier but I don't want to damage my AMP...

    See you.

    Hi
Ive got a rotary switch on my amp1b ("Worked first time" thread in amp1 forum)
Ive not had any problems in the months that its been in use. Its
probably been switched at least once a day, between the TV and CD.

There is a circuit in the thread I think.

    Cheers
    Steve

Regarding Omishra's post in the thread "Problem With Disconnectng Inputs", Omishra's problem was apparently caused by improper grounding on his AMP1. If I read his recent post correctly, the grounding problem has been corrected and it now functions properly when switched.

I plan to have my switchbox completed in a month, and my first AMP5 completed in about 2 months. I will be sure to update the forum when I complete both projects.

    Regards,
    Bryan

Ok, thanks all, your feedback is welcome! I'll take extra-care about the grounding.

    See you.
