    Default AMP6-B Design check

    Hi folks!

Just wanted to run my design for a small Amp6-Basic amp by you guys before starting building any of it. CAD-renders are attached at the bottom (though my SolidWorks rendering skills are kinda lacking). The casing is teak (haven't decided on the finish yet though), and the bottom+back plate/heatsink and volume button are brass.

First question is, will wires and the lot fit in the casing? The CAD-version of the board is accurate enough, I'm just not sure if everything will fit in the casing...

Secondly, will i need some kind of shielding, maybe padded on the inside of the casing to limit noise? I'm thinking some kind of fine-meshed metal sheet, like this.

Any other advice is welcome of course

    Cheers!

Also, I've seen potientiometers with a switch function in one end. Could I use this as a mute switch, so when you turn the volume all the way down, you eventually activate the mute switch? I think I saw a log 47K stereo pot with this function, will that do the trick for me, when I'm mainly playing from mp3-player/cell phone input.

    One more cheers

    >> if you get EMI/RFI problems (check with small portable radio then), line the inside with alu-tape, the kind used for airco-systems: thickkish, sticky, wide and be connected (with a screw somewhere) to earth or Pgnd if needed.

    >>make it look good! -nice wood+varnish.

Don't worry, I never had problems with unshielded amps, not even with the cheap sonic impact T-amp....

The design looks quite nice! Be careful though with potmeters, especially the ones with built in switch tend to be rather crappo... I would choose an Alps or Vishay or the like....

    Great, thanks to both
Will look in to the potmeters, but will probably just put a switch somewhere then - if i decide to incorporate the mute function, anyway.

BTW, how many amps should the power supply be? I've got my eye on a 12V 50W SMPS with the correct size plug (dont know about polarity yet though), but don't know if that's too much?

    Seems ok.
Due to 8ohm speakers, try to get a 14V one, every Volt counts here (don't go over 14V)
