Can you perhaps grind down the plastic?
Can you perhaps grind down the plastic?
Dear Krilli,
Not without getting rid of the support for the end of the Zif socket. As it stands, the distance required removes the use of two sets of contact pins.
If all else fails, I may try to grind the plastic down and epoxy the loose pieces back together. Thank you for this suggestion.
Ken.
Hi guys,
The answer to this post is that the ZIF socket is no use for the Truepath: the capacitors are in the way as described above and the distance between the rows of pins is different from the pcb.
The pcb is built to fit the Truapath Ta3020 chip pin spacing as it is originally supplied. I do not intend to bend the pins on the ZIF socket to fit the Truepath pcb, but will continue to use SIP strips as recommended by Audiophool. Also, Jan now supplies a DIL socket with the Truepath kit, which can easily be cut in two, and used in the same manner as the SIP strips.
Sorry, you can't get rid of me easily!
Ken.
My second Truepath I used two 24 pin DIL sockets but now I am having issues with a dry connection and just now a very nerve racking pop on first one speaker and then the other about .5s apart. I blame the sockets which admittedly are not as high quality as the ones Jan is selling. It has performed flawlessly up until now so I am contemplating (with a fair degree of trepidation) desoldering the sockets and soldering the TA3020 directly onto the board. I know it's a dry connection because the mute occasionally kicks in and I have to press gently on the TA3020 to get it unlatch.
Why not solder the chip pins hard into the socket?

I will have a closer look at that possibility but I don't think I can get the tip of the soldering iron into the socket.
Tried using a DIL socket as supplied with Amp7 but the rows of pins are too close for the Truepath board. Eventually soldered the TA3020 direct as described elsewhere.
Just saw it in two in the length!
