Last thing about arjen's electrical wiring: (but maybe useful for others too)
If someone has weird issues with appliances and overall electrical issues in a Dutch house, it can effect others too and can be serious.
One is supposed to call the net-operator (can be supplier), they MUST send an inspector to check Earthing, voltages, loose lines in main-power entry cabinet or other items.

It does NOT matter who owns the house or whatever.
