Default AMP6-Basic Assembled - Worked fine, now not so much! (Help)

    Hey guys

I built a boominator style boombox a few months ago and I've been amazed with the Amp6-Basic so far.. However, last night I recharged the battery and after it was done I turned on the boombox and suddenly the sound "stops" briefly all the time when I turn up the volume..

Its been working fine so far for atleast 50-60 hours of playing at 50% or more but now I can't push it to more than 50% before it starts to sound horrible..

    Any ideas why?

Its as if the Amp chokes when I turn up the volume.. The sound gets 'scratchy' and stops playing briefly constantly..

Here is a video illustrating it better:

It just got worse.. Its been playing a little while on 20% volume or something.. When I tried turning up the volume it just started hissing and then the music almost died and only played really low..

The AMP smells a bit hot or burnt but the chip is quite cool when i open the amp.. Any idea what the problem could be?

No, that is not normal... R9 is a part of the output filter of the left. Do you use a speaker in both channels or just on the right channel? Right in this case is the channel on the same side with R10.

I didnt notice if the R10 was glowing aswell as i just quickly turned off the power to the Amp. I have 2 HP-10w paralleled on each channel with 2 piezo tweeters each side aswell. Its the same as Saturnus' boominator setup..

So? What have you decided to do?
-Take out the amp and check all soldering thoroughly and/or other connections?
    -Did a speaker short-circuit maybe?
    -Is the battery voltage normal?
-Maybe something got loose in the box or stuff got in?
-A amp-part or else vibrated loose?
    Maybe helpful for others too.

You may have battery issues... The Amp is trying to draw too much and the battery can't keep up. You need a good battery with some AMPs available. Try a new battery as a test.. Buy one.. If you have the same problem then it isn't the batter and you return the battery.. You also may want to try a 10,000 Capacitor between the battery and the AMP.

Try an Ice fishing battery from Mills Fleet farm 12 Volt / 7AMP. fairly cheap. I think you need 12 volt / 4 or 5 AMP to not have this problem.

I'm no expert by the way. total newbie. wait for more to chime in.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your replies.. Funny thing happened.. I started deassembling the AMP casing etc, but before I really got into it, I thought "Hmm, im gonna try one last time" so i plugged it in again, turned on the power and funny thing happened, it played flawlessly again..

Really weird, the AMP doesnt seem to have suffered any form of overload and the sound is just as fine as before

Maybe the battery applied too much current since some of the components started glowing? Or something else? :-)
