Default red and green light on

This is my first amp so I'm sure I'm missing something basic here..

I put a 12v battery as source and jumped 7 to 8 on J2. Both the red and green LED's go one. I get around 2.x amps at connection and then it dropped to around .5. When I remove the battery, the LED dim out over approx 3 second. This makes me think there is a leak instread of a normal short.

I looked at all my solders and they are pretty clean. Where should I start trouble shooting for this?

    Thanks

    Christopher

10.5 V around .2am with the battery removed. This is with no jumpers (sleep mode) and no load (no speakers connected)

BTW, I have a pair of 3oh speakers I just for testing. Is this ok if I do not load it?( play it loud?)

I plan to step the voltage to 16v when I get this going. I figured 12v would be safer to start. Plan on using something between this

    and this

BTW, what is the max Amp load for this thing?

I am running right off the pads, so I will jump the rectifier. Would too low V explain why I'm popping the 200ma fuse and having both lights on? Or is the fuse popping because of the rush to the large cap?

    Thanks!

well, since I'm popping the 200mA fuse and have a constant .5amp draw, I think it may be more then just Cap draw.

Also, I bypassed the rectifier and now I get .7A draw.

    Any thoughts?

Also, just to check, no jumpers mean sleep mode yes?
