Default Troubleshooting Amp 6 basic - no sound, only "clicking"

    Hi guys,
I bought and assempled my amp6basic a few years ago, and it ran great, until some girls at my camp (at the Roskilde-festival) thought they knew how to set up my boombox in the morning while I was still asleep. I had removed the clips from the battery to make sure it was off, so I think the girls might have switched the clips - could it have fryed the amp? The on-board fuse is still intact and there's no visible issues, but even with a fully loaded 12v battery there's no sound, just a low clicking.

Is it save-able or should I just go invest in a new one? (and add some led on the boombox, so it won't get messed up again)

Hope you can help me out on this one, Mads.

Edit: I might add that the sound is a really fast clicking, several times a second

    Any luck with that?

On a note. The amp6b is protected from reverse voltage so that's not the problem. Most probably something in the output part is wrong. Outputs shorted, output coils needs resoldering, something like that.

I have been skimming it, but I can't find anything useful in the troubleshoot page. I have also looked over the amp closely several times, but I just can't find any solderings or anything that looks suspecious.. Will get my camera in a few minutes and upload some photos, maybe I'm missing something

Measure the resistance of the outputs (without speakers connected) this should measure alike and quite high (way above 10K) at both channels...

As Saturnus said the polarity is protected, so no problem there.....

at 20k both outputs are flickering quite a lot, left side is usually between 6-7 while right side is 4-5.. Sorry for the missing terms, but I'm no shark at this stuff

Oh yes, there's some pictures here, even though the quality isn't too good..

Your SMD diode solders, especially on the top side don't look very good, try to give them a nice little reflow....

    Repeated clicking sound (AMP-6x, others)
When J2-jumpers (mute/awake) are in place
    • Something on the output section is short circuited and the amp protection mutes and tries to restart about once per second.
    • Check+Clean all soldering on the output section, so there is no short circuit
    • Check to see if the speaker cables are not shorted

    Also find some new girl-friends.
For this reason, building an amp that requires special knowledge to operate is not advisable.
Try to make everything you do "idiot-proof", as sooner or later, some idiot will come along....

I have been looking at the 'repeated clicking sound' in the troubleshooting, but this one is different - it's a fast clicking, not once per second.
Haha, well I do blame myself for not making it idiot-proof enough

I have been resoldering what I assume is the SMD diodes (look at my drawing below), but still no luck..IMG_5260.jpg

Are those the resoldered solders or still the old?

Does the chip have a hole in it like this?
    Blown-chip.jpg

If not, then I suspect a problem with the soldering of the chip pins.
Can you get a closeup of the TA2020 legs soldering on the PCB.
Hint, when attaching the pics to the post, do not select "reference locally" or they will be resized and we won't be able to see any details like the first ones you posted.
