Thread: troubleshooting amp9 PS tall cap.

  1. #1

Default troubleshooting amp9 PS tall cap.

i've just finished my amp 9. but i dont think it's working allright.
the situation right now: power supply is 13.8v dc (only a test supply)

when i turn the power supply on, the OVRLDB_LED and the FAULT_LED go on. (i suppose that's bad?) and the HMUTE_LED stays off

and when i then make sleep and mute high the FAULT_LED goes off and the HMUTE_LED stays off.

that doesn't seem right to me. so who can help me? i haven't tried any loads on the outputs or an input signal yet becaus i was to scared to kill the amp!
i hope that this information is sufficient. (i only have a ''normal'' multimeter to measure with)

    thanks in advance,

    Jasper

(i'm sorry for any gramar mistakes. i'm doing my best efforts on it)

    nobody?

if i haven't given enough information can you tell me then what i should test?
    d1 t/m d14 seem to be ok.

Overload is normally on on the AMP9 and goes off in case of input overloading. (it'll dim along with the peaks in the music so to speak)

Fault is not supposed to be on though... What resistances do the outputs measure?

i measure around 9 k ohm and around 6 k ohm on the outputs. (measured without powersupply and between the + and - of the outputs. is that right?)

It's faaaaar too low, with the usual larger 16 diodes this should be about 50-80K... Time for some pics!

    Default Low output resistances

I have 2 AMP9 tall cap and if I measure resistances on both AMP9 its arround 4k on the outputs.

And both are working?? I know this depends on the type of output clamping diodes, but I haven't even measured anything under 10K...

I now did the soldering again on one board and after cleaning I now measure +/- 41 k on the four outputs, that is a big difference. So there is hope Jasper.

hmmm there seems to be hope indeed.
but i'm getting some strange readings: (i solderd everything again)

on output 1 i get around 20 k now (good?)
outputs 2 and 3 are paralel and here it becomes strange, when i measure it comes at around 8 k, but when i switch my multimeter (just putting the black and red wire vice versa) i read about 1.5 k. that seams strange to me.

chanel 4 is about the same but now it's 6.5 k and 5.5 k (less strange but still...)

are there maybe parts that i kiled during soldering? (i'm not the greatest hero with an iron..)
