    Default 41Hz PreAmp?

Since most of the amplifiers are power amplifers the most ligical next thing would be a preamp kit.

Can be simple, with merely a couple of high-end opamps, a few relays and a microcontroller (with sleep operation to prevent EMI noise, off course). A phono preamp should be optional, since hardly anyone uses vinyl anymore.

    Is this a good idea?

I really wish for a 41hz preamp. I hope Jan is working on something in this direction.
Or is there a common DIY alternative?

I have been loking for one fitting to my amp6 basic, but then decided to apply a poti, LEDs and switches to it,
since i didn't find something as easy to build as the amp6.
Especially the high power amps would profit from a decent preamp.
Probably this combination will be my next project.

    Definitely a good idea.

It would be really cool, if adjustment for bass and treble was also integrated. This would be nice for portable stereos that are used both in- and outdoors.

Yes! Especially if it could be run from the same battery power supply as the main amp.

Forget about it, it's not gonna work well... There is no integrated amplifier with good specs that does this because it simply would introduce all sorts of noises. Have a look, they may use one single transformer, but ALWAYS separate windings...

But couldn't it be done if they were separate modules galvanically isolated from each other with a transformer or something? With portable systems used both indoors and outdoors, I think lack of bass/treble adjustment is a far bigger problem for sound quality than noise. They are, most of the time, used at quite high volume levels anyway. Then again, I'm not entirely sure I understand everything, so...

Preamps need virtually no power, so I would recommend running it on a separate battery then. Or indeed use an isolation unit, but that's not very elegant in the signal path. Although there are great quality transformers for that, but these are usually rendered too costly....(say €50 for a pair)

Ideally a USB or SPDIF DAC would be better than a pre-amp, since most music sources have digital outputs now.
Jan mentioned a DAC kit many years ago on this forum, but for whatever reason has not yet developed a kit.
    Let's keep our fingers crossed.
