    Default solder type issues

    Hi all,
Just something to take into account; Now most, if is not all, SMD components are Rohs compliant, this means the solder temperature has to be higher than the good hold leaded solder, also you can use leaded based solder for the components, it is not recommended for a proper job. Ideally you should get the correct type of solder, and a quality temperature controlled iron, unfortunately this is the cost of progress and saving the planet (or not).

Question for Jan: are your PCBs Rohs compliant and is the plating too?

Thank you for the hard work and excellent value kits

Using non lead free solder together with some components that are lead free will work. So, also cause soldering with leaded solder is easier, I use still Leaded solder at home.

    Hi,

All components except the older Tripath chip are RoHS compliant, while boards are not (yet). Some chip are not available in RoHS compliant versions. You will have a choice of RoHS compliant PCBs soon.

I will also have a solder test kit soon, for practicing lead free soldering.
