    Default Not sure which amp to choose

    Hi

    I am looking for an amp for my 12v monster party wagon.

    The wagon contains;

    - 2x HD15 horns that contains PD154, 500watts, 8ohm
    - 2x Cerwin Vega 15''

    Ive looked at all the amps in the shop and I get the impression that the AMP7 is best suited for my setup.

    I can see that the AMP7 can be supplied with up to 60v. Can I run it by paralleling two truckbatteries into 24v? If so, how much power will it output?

    Im a bit confused with regards to the assembly of the AMP7, can I buy all the necessary components in here?

    Running the Amp7 on 12V isn't all that great. You would need at least four batteries because the Amp7 is dual-rail and the absolute bare minimum to even get it running is 18V per rail - and it doesn't even start to make sense to use the Amp7 with 18V rails because the Amp7's increased power capacity doesn't start to kick in until above 30-40-50V per rail.

    I'd go with the Amp9 and run on single-rail 12V or 24V. You could serial-connect two batteries or use a simple voltage doubler. This gives you 4 channels of about 100W. Or even just an Amp6. (What's the sensitivity of those speaker drivers?)

    ... and no, you need some components that aren't available here Stuff like switches, connectors, cases, power supplies such as a transformer or switchmode supply or indeed batteries ...

    As Krilli said, the most loudness will be gained from more efficient speakers as decibels go exponential and power just linear....

    And also as Krilli said all class T amps (and other amplifiers as well when the loss is accounted for due to their low efficiency) produce equal power at equal supply voltage. The only differences they have is some can handle higher supply voltage and can deliver more current which makes them more powerful. And some are bridge connected by default, some aren't and can still be bridged, which halves the amount of channels, but makes them roughly twice as powerful because they can output twice the supply voltage...

    The best thing you can do, but very very hard to get is build up the amplifier with a symmetric isolated 12V to +/- 60Vdc converter. Common car amplifiers of higher quality have these. I have also started a thread about these before, but mind you these projects are not for beginners!!
