Default Enough is enough. Another rev1.20 AM mode complaint thread.

Up to and after this years Roskilde Festival, I've supported at least 7 different people, mostly DIY n00bs, that had trouble with this. Several which had burned of their amps in the process.

I know that the newest assembled boards have a jumper installed on the extra pin already but there's still no inlay warning that the AM mode pin HAS to be jumpered to enable class D.

Class D mode should naturally be default, so when can we expect a rev1.30 where this grievous error is corrected? So that you either have to double jumper to enable AM mode, or remove the option entirely?

Also wanted for the very very large festival stereo crowd is an on-board simple timer so that on/off and mute don't have to be turned on and off in a particular order and there's on one on/off pin that controls both on/off and mute.

The vast majority of costumers especially those that buy assembled versions are people that have little or no understanding of electronics. They can maybe solder inputs to the also, in most cases, needed line trafos but other than that their understanding of the amp is limited to being black magic, and so the boards should be geared towards being as fool-proof as possible for n00bs and then advanced users that know what they're doing can enable the functions they like.

So right, I've noticed this ages ago and notified Jan immediately to change this. Even a little paper in the kits explaining what must be done would be a good temporary solution until the boards run out. The next rev MUST be fixed in this respect.

I totally agree. Most of the people I help build festival stereos now simply can't be bothered with all this. Many of them just buy inferior ready-made Lepai amps instead because it really is the best for them. They don't want to spend ages getting it to work with the risk of destroying the amp in the process. It would also be nice with a standard case for AMP6/AMP9 amps that they can put it in afterwards, perhaps with on/off timer as Saturnus suggests and volume. I think people will actually pay quite a lot for all this as you would probably still pay a lot more for a decent car stereo/amp as the alternative. It's a small part of the cost of a good festival stereo, yet one of the most important.

Market opportunity. In this sense, the Amp9 isn't a consumer product - it's a component to be refined further.
