    Default AMP11-LV power supply

    Hi,

I am interrrested in building a medium power "low profile" (i.e. under 50 mm in height) amplifier.
I saw the amp11-LV which looked like a good candidate.
But i am a litle confused with what sort of power suply would be good. It says 24 V (or is it 2*12 V?).

I was wondering if you could power it with a 120W or 150 W laptop SMPS which outputs 24 V(around 6A)??...
I have seen the 120W 24V one failry cheep around $40, and they are not so big so they would fit inside my casing pretty easy even with the amp11 pcb.

Do you need to do anything else with the amp, or is it just to hook it up to the smps ?..

    Yep! Yes, 24V, not 2*12V

You can use a generic SMPS. I've tried various random supplies with 41Hz amps. Has always worked pretty well. 120W should be fine

Sweet.... Thanks so much for your answer.
I have a simpler amp first to test my soldering skills on, amp10 basic to build, before i dare to test surface mount soldering, but after that i Will order the amp11 LV, and build My "monster dual mono" amp... Although medium power , it is more than enough for My room....

    good luck!

P.s. - Surface mount is quite easy if you have a reasonably good iron (doesn't need to be super fancy), and some liquid flux. Then there's a couple of simple tricks to get the hang of and it all becomes quite easy. The difference between surface-mount and through-hole is that there's just a liiiitle more to learn before starting surface-mount, but in the end I find surface-mount easier. This shows the gist of it, even though they're working with a little crazier stuff, pretty tiny: http://store.curiousinventor.com/gui...Soldering/101/

Thanks for the Link, it was very informative, it actually looks rather fun to solder surface mount , cant Wait to try it out...
