    Default Car audio use?

I'd like to run a pair of AMP5s for car audio. I'm running in to current trouble where my class A amps are just way too big.

I'd need to add gain control...

But the amps are rated at 45vdc.

How would I supply the proper power to them?

    Any experience with this?

    SLA Batteries

Heavy, but quite portable in the situation.

There isnt a small transformer that can be used? I'm trying to save weight and space as much as possible.

Ah, that's fair enough then. [8D]

Yes, I would imagine it was possible to take power from the usual 'cigarette lighter' socket, via a transformer, and use it in the amp. If you were more daring, then you could no probably take the power from a more internal source, but I'm no expert on the internals of car electronics.

More to the point, I'm not able to provide any links to transformers for this application either. However, I understand many people on this forum could, so good luck anyway. Sorry I couldn't be of more help [8)].

    Thanks.

I have a live 4 gauge wire terminating into a fused dist block I installed, so 12v source and 12v ground are very easy to come by.

Are you going to replace the class A amps with two AMP5? I have plan like this, only I want to use one AMP5...

A good power supply I allready have, I got an old DELOREAN DL-290 amp with an excellent SMPS on board delivering 35Vdc + and - (dual supply, in series this gives 70Vdc)out of 12V car battery.... It would be excellent for the high power version of AMP5.

I saw these amps second hand for really low prices on http://www.marktplaats.nl.

With class D coming up I noticed the old AB car amps are being sold very cheap, many of them have excellent SMPS on board...just rip out the class AB guts and get a nice high power T-amp inside...

How small? Shall I call it 'one of my strengths'...(perhaps even 'my field of expertise'...) http://www.41hz.com/forums/photo_gal...l&whichpage=14

I also built an AMP9 in 1.5"x4.0"x3.5" size...(that's smaller than the PCB size!) with comfortable banana speaker connections and four RCA inputs... very nice car amp with pretty good power capability (it can also be parallelled into two or even one channel to increase the power. (and improve the sound quality!).

Oh and I can make you a custombuilt case...(if it's worth the transportation cost....)

------X-max. can be several meters on any driver, too bad it can be done only once...------

In the end, what I am trying to accomplish is something with:

    12v in
    12v ground
    remote turn on lead (12v)
    gain control on RCA inputs
    adjustable 12db/oct crossover
